To the sea

I am so stoked to head over to Santa Cruz tomorrow and catch some waves. My new Danny Hess hand plane arrived tonight and it looks gorgeous! I am going to bring my 4th gear flyer tracker round tail as well. Should be loads of fun, I have never used a hand planes we will see.

Tour Time

Ahh the joys of Summer, long days cool nights and the Tour de France. I am up early every morning and watch the Tour as it unfolds. I have been watching game the tour since I can remember, from the old days when you would get a half hour "Americanized" show, to the modern day live coverage. Sometimes I hate technology, but not when I get to see the Tour like I am there.

Back to the sea

Just returned from our yearly vacation in Lake Tahoe. On the first day I tore my left hamstring wake hoarding. A great way to start vacation. We made the best of it and it was fun to get away. The kids got to see friends they only see once a year, and I did something I don't usually do... Nothing. The best thing to come out of it all is that swimming will be my best therapy. To be honest I haven't been on the surf mat in far too long. So no cycling, no skateboarding, but lots of swimming and surf matting.

Its been a while since I last posted here. So many changes in my little world. The short list is this: Jen has a new job. The kids both graduated from their classes. I have been riding Soda Factory skateboards exculesively for the last few months. Rick Hunter is building a new hardtail mountain bike for me. And last but not least the first day of vacation at Stanford Sierra camp I tore my hamstring while wakeboarding. I ahvent been on my surfmat in awhile but with my injury swimming will be one of the best things to help in my recovery. I am going to break out one of the new mats Paul Gross made for me and see how it goes. Its been far too long out of water so in some way this is the push i need to help get me back out. I always have a better frame of mind after being out in the water.

Last day of Summer

Tomorrow the kids go back to school. I am filled with mixed emotions, on one hand it's only the 3rd week of August. When I was in grade school we went back to school after labor day weekend, it was a logical time. Labor is traditionally the end of the summer. The days are still warm, the surf was good. On the other hand with the kids back in school I get a couple of hours on Wednesdays. It will also bring a bit more structure to the McKie household. It's amazing how fast life is ting by now. I must remember to enjoy each and every day.

Community Design

So I have been helping out in the design process of a new skateboard for Comet Skateboards. It has been a really neat experience, a lot of people having a lot of good ideas which we all voted on as the design ideas we wanted. Not everyone got exactly what we wanted but all in all the board came out fantastic. We used some ideas that Comet doesn't normally do in their decks. I was real excited when it showed up the other day, I finally put it together last night and got a short session on it today. I must say it works way better than I tought it would. It is a little narrower than I would like but I am stoked on it. Here are a few pics for now.
